Default dumb ass here askin a question

I hardly know any thing about how an engine works.. I heard about how an engine works better if its cooled (something about more fuel in the engine cools it and makes it perfrom better) I always thought an engine works beter if heated..so whats the deal here?

I believe you might have heard that an engine runs better in cooler conditions. When the air is cool, the engine performs better than when it is hot and humid.

excluding the out side temperature...does it work better if the engine its self is cooler or warmer?

the motor works optimal when it's at operating temperature, that is, not too cool, and not too hot.

WHen you used forced air induction systems (super or turbocharger) it is better for the air to be cooled in order to have higher density of the air.

that makes sense, cheers.. so cooling the cylinders with more fuel doesnt make it perform better?

Colder air is more dense, so there is more oxygen per liter. The computer will provide more fuel to match up with the higher oxygen content, so it's like having a larger engine. This is with ALL engines, not just forced induction.

Correct. Also, more fuel (richer mixture) by itself can degrade performance independent of operating temperature. However, if the mixture becomes too lean (too little fuel), the engine can detonate causing dire mechanical consequences over time. The S2000 engine runs a little on the rich side which makes it safer to operate at the expense of a little power.

The engine will perform best when it has achieved the following combination: engine warm/air cold. This is usually achieved only artificially.
