just a thought;

How about a little tube that sucks air (vacuum with little hose). You could maybe catch it after seing where it is with the borescope?
That is actually a pretty decent idea! I would imagine if you got one with a good amount of suction (like a dentist tool type thing) you would stand a pretty good chance of getting it.

I used to work on my friend's cars all the time and we'd always lose and find tools in the engine bay... Best thing we found was an entire breaker bar...
Haha, I find tools all thru my jeep on a weekly basis. hammers, rolls of tape, spools of wire, even random loose recovery equipment.

They make things that are like bore scopes but instead the end is a lil claw. so bore scope through one hole and play the claw game through the fill hole.

little different, and off topic, but i dropped a small screwdriver into my engine bay about half a year ago and it was never seen again, i was parked in a driveway and it didnt fall thru, i ran over speed bumps in a sub division to try to knock it out and everything, looked around for it for an hour. Never found it
after i got my car we found a wrench and a bunch of hair stuck in the rad fan like a week later haha

sounds like you are gonna have to take the plunge in one direction or the other. drive it and hope it gets ripped to shreds, or disassemble the whole thing just to pull out that little piece.

Is there not something there to keep stuff out?? If not I would think that you would have issues with metal shavings getting in there?
Ya, the casing keeps things out most of the time.
