Default Driving with no passenger seat

I've got most of my interior out right now except for the driver's seat and safety equipment (roll hoops, belts). The SRS light is on because the passenger seat isn't plugged in.

Is it safe to drive like this, or will this adversely affect the operation of any of the safety features, should the unthinkable happen?

Your driving and you are in the driver seat, you are fine. Many people take out the passenger seat for many reasons and put it back when they can or want to.

The light being on will not effect anything.

As long as you are seated in the driver's side of the car, you are still protected by your seatbelt, but the question remains: will the driver's side SRS equipment (air bag and belt pre-tensioners) operate properly if the system detects a fault with one passenger side element?

Also note that once the SRS fault code is set, it will not clear without you following a special procedure. There is a special tool to make clearing the code easier, but some have done so without it. Do a search for a description of the re-setting procedure.

This is exactly what I'm wondering. I guess better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the heads up on the reset procedure, as well.

your airbag will go off unless the fault is with the driverside airbag.

Same thing I was thinking. There is no sensor in the seat for SRS until MY2006 or so. If your SRS light is on that is probably not the reason unless you have a much newer car than you indicate.

I think if you disconnect the battery first you won't have to worry about it with or without airbag sensor detachment.
