driving with low oil

Here's my theory: Since the oil was low but the pressure okay, the engine was getting the proper oiling during operation. If the rattling was during operation all the time, perhaps there was simply less oil to damp the sound. If it was only on startup, I've heard that sound when doing oil changes - I assume it's the oil pump forcing oil through the passages that drained due to drained oil. Perhaps if the oil is low enough the same thing happens. In any case, since the oil pressure never dropped, wouldn't that mean the engine was getting plenty of it?

my question is this.
was the noise really a RATTLING or a TICKING
ticking sound you're fine.
another important question was HOW LOW on oil and for HOW LONG

Usually the buyout is more than buying one from someone else. Take a look at your lease agreement. It should have a buyout price on it. You would also need to consider the amount of damage you did to the motor to help you with your decision.
