Default Drivers side window stops when putting hood down.

Hello all.

I've just joined the board here. Another happy s2000 owner, just moved to San Diego from PA and drove my baby the whole 3,000 miles (couldn't bring myself to hand the keys to an auto shipper).
Particularly enjoyed Colorado & Utah with the top down - man what a ride!!!!!

Anyway, my drivers side window has started to stop half way when I activate the hood to put it down, pretty annoying and looks crappy, I have to wait until the hood is fully down and then use the drivers side controls to take it the rest of the way.

Also a question from a newbie to Vtec.

Why does the vTec only come in at 6,000 rpm? Can it be adjusted or is it a physical attribute of the engine?

Looking forward to becoming a regular here, and anyone from San Diego feel free to email me, maybe can start a local club.

Joel

What you are describing is the most common engineering defect on the S2000. The regulator will be replaced under warranty but the problem may return.

As to VTEC, no one has really had much success with lowering it more than a couple hundred rpms

Welcome aboard.

To elaborate on your question, the ECU electronically controls VTEC. Changing it requires modifying the ECU (which no one has been able to do yet on '96+ Hondas) or using an intercept/spoof device like an Apex'i V-AFC that physically "interrupts" the signal, allowing you to control it.

As Jim mentioned, there hasn't been much luck with doing more than lowering it a few hundred RPMs. On some Hondas it does much more (almost 30 wheel HP on an H22 Prelude at the VTEC point). A lot of the engine (intake manifold, head, cam) design determines what will be the "best" point. Honda wasn't very far off when they set it.

Even the Mugen ECU leaves VTEC where it is.

Thanks man, I feel a little wiser now.

So, what solutions have people found to increase the low end performance that actually make a difference without spending 5k+ on the engine?

If you lower the Vtec point, then you will lose bottom end horsepower and the switchover will be less noticeable. If you raise it then the switchover will be very dramatic. Honda put the VTEC point at the optimal point, there is no need to change it.

It's just the torque man! 153lbs!!!!!

That's only about 25lbs more than a miata if I'm not mistaken, I love my car, but sometimes it is liking driving a huge laggy TC on wheels.

I saw someone talking about taking the cylinders out to 2.2 liter, anyone know if this is even possible and if so what kind of effect that would have on torque?

If Honda weren't so worried about holding the crown of highest hp/liter maybe a 2.2l wouldn't be such a bad idea. The car would no longer have any torque issues as it does now...i still think it's the perfect car the way it is though!
