Default Downshift to accelerate, but delay in acceleration

I was driving on the highway today and went to pass a slow car in front of me. I down shifter from 6th to 5th and the car started to accell than went down in acceleration. There was no jump like there usually is. Can anyone give me some ideas on what it might be.

Was it not warmed up yet and you hit the cold rev limiter? Or maybe low on oil and drop in oil pressure caused the VTEC solenoid to drop out?
