just a comment about maintenance and extended warranties (this may be out of date, though, since it was about 10 years ago):

I bought an extended warranty on a 1986 integra and at about 70Kmiles the timing belt broke. Back then, they did not specify that the timing belt be replaced at a specific interval, so I guess it wasn't considered a "wear item". Anyway, ended up needing about $1000 of engine work but fortunately covered under the extended warranty.

My acura service rep kindly offered to interface with the warranty company, even though it was a "3rd party" company not affiliated with the dealer or acura/honda. He said they made him pull every maintenance record for the car and he got the distinct impression that if I had not brought the car in religiously for every "required" maintenance, they would have probably refused to pay for the work.

If you have an extended warranty and you do your own "scheduled maintenance", be very sure to keep good records and all of your receipts.
