Does this look ok?

LOL, I can understand your concern. Removing the stock airbox leaves a HUGE opening right in front of the block (best filled by a supercharger!) Be warned that driving in the rain or through puddles with that style air intake is a little dangerous as you raise the risk of sucking water up the intake. Personally that would be one of the first things I would swap out on the car, in favor of a K&N FIPK or similar (or stock).
Find the alternator and look straight down towards the ground. You should see the big AC compressor unit there. I believe when looking at the engine from the front of the car, the AC compressor pulley is the lowest pulley on the passenger side of the engine.

Looks like the front bumper VIN sticker is missing--either in an accident and/or was repainted.

P.S. For $13.5ish, you can do a lot better. Get an 02-03 with the glass rear window, slightly faster engine, and slightly improved interior and suspension for the same price (or less, actually) with less mileage.
Private sales ftw.

...and the passenger side horn is missing. the convertible top could use some midifri (sp) replacement straps. Put it up on a hoist or lift and look underneath too.
good luck

IMO its too high for a modified ap1. Yah you might get some extra cool parts but that doesn't make it worth more. If you want an ap1 get an 02-03 so you get a glass rear window, plastic sucks.

It's really impossible to tell based solely on those photos. If you're not sure then get it inspected.
Not a big deal in my experience if you drive with some sense (avoid standing water, etc). Also make sure that the fender hole above the filter is plugged and/or you're using an umbrella or you can hydrolock just from water dripping on the filter from above. It's really the OP's call to make.

Looks terrible. Needs large turbo kit immediately. Take it to a local reputable shop and have them do a PPI. We do this for customers all the time. Worth every penny they'll charge you for it.
