Default Does the IACV measure coolant temp?

Was just curious, does the iacv sensor attached to the back of the intake manifold sense the temp of the coolant and let the ecu know?? or is it there only to heat it up? I've always wondered why there is coolant running through it, i just thought the ecu sends the signal to the valve and tells it to open or close..
