Default Does having a CEL means no VTEC?

Does having a CEL for not having an air pump means the VTEC will not engage?

I was running the K-pro before and removed the air pump. I recently switched back to the OEM ECU and there is always a CEL because of the removed air pump. Does this mean my VTEC will not engage as long as the CEL is on?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

I'm curious why you dropped the kpro? Especially after having to install all the related RSX sensors. It seems like a really worthwhile mod, especially on an early ap1.
