Default Does the F20C have lifters or Lost Motion Assemb.

Just wondering since the NSX has these LMAs in place of lifters, I was wondering whether the same goes for the F20C.....Do all the Vtec motors have these?

Ok, this is a new term to me. I know pretty much what lifters are. What are lost motion assemblies?

Well...theyre like lifters or tappets. I got the definition from Dali Racing for the NSX engine...."They live under the secondary rockers that are the Vtec rockers. These are the rockers that ride freely until the pins slide through the vtec engagemnent. The Lost Motion Assemblies keep the secondary rockers on the cam lobe while they aren't in use. When vtec engages, the secondary rockers are kept up by the tension of the valve springs."

The lost motion springs are pretty much standard in DOHC VTEC engines. They dont want the secondary rocker bouncing around when it's not connected to the primary rockers.

Thanks folks! That makes sense. I hadn't considered what the secondary rocker arms are doing when they're not being used. It amazes me that everything connects and disconnects reliably as the VTEC cycles anyway.

the role of the LMA is to keep the secondary rocker from flailing around and damaging the rest of the head.

to be more exact, if the lost motion assembly is removed you will waste your retainers because the vtec rockers wont have a place to rest but on top of the retainers, and while you are not in VTEC, the rockers are pounding the retainers...
