That being said, I'm not saying using conventional oil during that first 7,500 to 10,000 miles is bad, I've just always been a believer in using a synthetic. Afterall, many high end automobiles use a synthetic oil as factory fill...
Chevron Supreme 10W-30 until 10k miles and then the synthetic of your choice after. That's my $.02.

But only Honda specified that you should kept factory filled oil in the S2000 until the first oil change at either 7500 miles or 3750 miles because of special additive(s) in factory filled oil. Mercedes did not mention anything about special factory oil filled in owner manual like Honda.
Yes, some S owners changed to synthetic oil before 10k miles without any engine problem, others stay with conventional oil the first 10k miles and no problems either, so the choice is your, stick with Honda recommendations and get no headaches with warranty if needed, or do what you think is best for your S and be happy with it.
Honda606,
According to RoadRage, the new Halvoline GF4 formular is the best conventional oil you can buy easily at any autopart store. This new Halvoline oil has very moly count, up to 400 ppm, almost as much as Honda break-in oil in the S.

Many high end automobiles don't have FRM cylinder walls either.

For people that are really concerned about it, you can buy a tube of moly for relatively cheap..
One interesting thing I did notice from my personal experiences with the S2000 though. When I purchased my '01 it was used. It had 15,000 miles on it. The guy that owned it was a tech. at the dealer. He stated that he followed the manual 100%, changing the oil at 3,750 miles with conventional oil, and finally went to synthetic at 10,000 miles. (and no VTEC before 600 miles)
That car burned about 1 litre of oil every 1,000 miles.
