Default Does 10W30 Mobil1 have an expiration date?

Found a case of Mobil1 from 2002 or 2003... not sure which. Can it still be used? never been opened. Was going to use it for oil change....

Thanks!

If your MY04 is more than 10K miles, then it is okay to use Mobil1 or any synthetic oil, just make sure it is 10W30 or 5W40. If you S is less than 7.5K miles, you should use high quality regular oil of 10W30.
There is no expiration date on any oil bottle, synthetic or regular. I used Mobil1 I bought 5-6 years ago in '00 E430 without any engine failures related to oil to this day.

You'll be fine to use it... I have an extra bottle of Mobil 1 10W30 that I keep around incase my S2000 burns any oil, but it hasn't... so the bottle has been sitting there unopened for over two years.

TR- I would only stick to what you mentioned if you did the engine break-in according to the manual. I do a more aggresive break-in, so mine was ready for synthetic at the first oil change (3,750 miles). Never burned any measureable amount of oil.

You may want to check to see how old it actually is. If the starburst symbol shows "API Service SL", then it isn't that old and I'd definitely use it. The current sylmbol is SM, and many prefer the formulation of SL. If it is SJ, then it's several years old but still good. If it's older than SJ, then it is really old, and may have oxidized quite a bit over the years. Personally, if it were that old, I'd use a quart of it with the rest SM for an oil change.

Which one is it?

I do not like to give Honda any chance to refuse warranty claim because of using synthetic oil before recommendation mileage in the manual. My S has about 9600 miles now, it used 1/2 quarts of oil before the first oil change at 3700 miles, since then it uses less than 1/4 quarts every 3000 miles using conventional oil. I will use Mobil1 for the next oil change at 10K miles around the end of this month, during Memorial wekend.

Slalom44, he said that his Mobil1 case was 2002 or 2003, then it must be SL and it is perfectly safe to use as you said.

I have Redline Oil from about 12 years ago and something definitely settled out of it.

Honda can only void your warranty if they're paying for your oil changes before 10,000 miles, otherwise they really can't "force" you to use conventional oil during that period.

That being said, I'm not saying using conventional oil during that first 7,500 to 10,000 miles is bad, I've just always been a believer in using a synthetic. Afterall, many high end automobiles use a synthetic oil as factory fill...

Thanks guys!

You just saved me $25 I was going to spend at Costco getting another case of Mobil1. The old case has "API Service SL/CF", so it's still good! Funny, the case I bought in Jan/2005 says the same thing...

And I only swapped over to synthetic at 10k miles. Wanted to break her in with dino oil first...
