You dont "need" a catch can for either. The addition of a catch can will stop an engine from burning the oil that vents from the crankcase with the blowby gasses or stop the oil from being expelled onto a racetrace if the gasses are not recirculated back into the intake. If the engine has forced induction, depending on hose routing of the catch can, the same oil will be kept from collecting in the intercooler/aftercooler. Usually, the more extreme the engine build, the more oil the catch can will collect.
A lot of people put catch cans on stock engines because thy like the way they look. If you actually "needed" a catch can on a stock S2000, Honda would have put one on it. The stock engine setup will burn the oil with limited issue to the motor. High milage motors get a build up in the intake manifold, but it can be easily removed.

If you track your AP1 and can hold higher Gs (downforce mods)through turns you will get oil pooling in the valve cover and more will push through your PCV into your intake than is good for the engine or the track. Expect a black flag.
Otherwise, nope.
I have one on my AP2 but don't get much.
