Do our cars burn oil on long trips?
Hey guys im starting to realize a pattern, when I first got the car I made a pretty long trip, about 90 minutes to get some work done to realize the car is extremely low on oil. So filled it up about a month back and everythings been fine, but I recently made a 2 hour drive, when I got back home I decided to check the oil and its about halfway down the x's. I had checked it about 2 days back and it was perfectly fine. Is it the long trips that usually burn the oil, or is something wrong with my car? Daily driving within the city seems fine, I check it about once a week. Car has 72,000 miles

AP1 are known to burn oil. You can check to see if your PCV is working correctly. You can also try changing your oil, or install some check valves in the pcv valve!
As long as the car isn't burning more than 1 quart every 1k miles just chaulk it up to the character of your car.

if you check your oil regularly, you would probably notice that the high rate of oil consumption is pretty consistent...
it wasn't long trips...rather for me, it was higher revving driving that consumed the most oil...but regardless of short or long trips, the oil consumption was consistent.
krank vents stopped a lot of oil consumption...about 70%.

i drive from orlando to tampa once a week and i sit at 4,000 rpms the whole way and i only consume a quart every 3,000 miles. And my ap2 has 72k miles on it. But even in the city i still burn exactly the same amount.

My AP1 burned oil at a rate of about 1 qt every 1500 miles or so. I installed krank vents when I did my oil change about 1500 miles ago and since I have burned no oil! My buddy has an 05 AP2 and he doesn't burn a drop of oil. He has about 10K miles and I have just over 50K.

My 07 uses not a drop (its only 20K on the clock).
My MY00 however drank like a fish. On an interstate trip of around 3500ks (there and back), it used a heap over the last 1000 k's. I recall adding around 3 litres.
It used oil if I spanked it. It ran fine and the service techs were never ever worried about it. They were really good. I'd drop in and have them check it if I was concerned. They'd top it up no charge between services.
It was like that from the 58K I purchased it with to the 144K where it ceased to exist.

My AP1 used to burn about a quart every 3k miles, but I have since installed a a catch can and a new PCV and I cant see any measurable oil loss between oil changes

69k on AP1 and no oil loss yet, maybe I am just lucky.
