If you car is stored outdoors, it is a VERY GOOD idea to start it, and DRIVE it regularly.
-rotors are bare metal, and will rust. If the rust is allowed to penetrate the rotors, they are garbage. driving cleans them.
-batteries can run low on charge. If a battery on low charge is allowed to freeze, consider it 75% wasted.
-all metal parts, bearings, eng, trans, wheel bearings, everything...their only protection is a coat of oil or grease. Gravity, over time, will pull the oil down clean enough to let rust begin. I have pitted camshafts here due to long winter outdoor storage.
If you are indoors, not frezzing, sitting a few months is ok.
You are ABSOLUTELY doing no harm by starting and driving the car.
I dont recommend any start that shuts down cold. Moisture forms instantly on startup. Driving to operating temp will burn it off.

People tend to overthink this too much IMO.
I live in Minnesota. Long winters. I usually store in Sept and drive again in April May depending on winter.
Stored on E85, I don't start it at all till I actually drive it. I have a tender on it, clean and vacuum it. That's it. That's all I have ever done on all of my cars I've stored.

My intention was to start monthly but due to unforseen circumstances , it had to sit until today but when I went to open it up and start it . However, The battery is now dead and the doors are locked down and I can't get into the car !!! Any ideas or suggestions !! oh, yeh I'm in Scotland and the winter hasn't been too cold !!

My car is stored indoors fom December to April. Garage is unheated, floor is covered with heavy plastic to lessen moisture transfer.
Not jacked up because I will be replacing the tires as soon as it goes back on the road.
It has now been started once and run for 15-20 minutes. I will do the same in Feb and March.'
I envy warm climate owners.
