Default Do air bags go off when the car is not running?

For example, If a car is parked in a parking lot and gets nailed in the front, would the air bags deploy?

If there is no power to the system, then they will not go off. It takes 15 min after you turn the car off for the system to discharge. But I think that once you turn the car off, and exit the car, it should not go off if hit.

While Im no expert, I kindof thought as long as the vehicle is hit hard enough in the right spot an airbag should deploy...

thanks for the input...

Startocaster appears to be correct. Cars hold a charge a few minutes after they are turned off, afterwhich airbags will not deploy

Potential hazard for a broken down car on the side of the road perhaps? I guess I'll leave the vehicle if the danger threat is high enough of being clipped or something.

That is in fact why they maintain a charge for a few mins after... To account for the people getting out of their car.
