I just cut away most of that vertical wall. Looking through the grill of my car you can see the filter pretty clearly.
Good idea using the intake elbow, tho, esp. with that rainguard so close to the filter. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if that guard and the filter get sucked up against each other pretty tightly at WOT; if you can separate them any more I think you should.
Little hard to tell from the angle, but looks like the elbow is just below the rainguard edge? In which case I wouldn't move the elbow up any farther unless you trim the guard (or reposition it) to ensure the elbow isn't blocked.
