I found this thread, sunday afternoon I was leaving a show and rolled into first, felt the tires break free, and it slammed the limiter, and I tried to get it into 2nd, and it would't go, so I let off revs came down slid into second and coasted to the stop sign.

Went to put it in first, and no dice. Won't go at all. So I took off from second, even with the cat off it won't go in first, rest of the gears are fine.

Haven't had any issues with this, but I'm going to pull it this week and give it a shot.

I replaced the countershaft on my 99 Si back in the day, and replaced the open diff for an lsd unit. So I'm hoping this isn't to hateful.

Don't you hate it when you look for an old DIY and all of the pics are too old to load?

Well I converted the DIY into a PDF since this will be used for a long time to come.

@ronnuke - Curious, it seems you mentioned you did this because of only your second gear? Was their any other damage or other parts you had to replace?

I ask because my second gear stopped engaging recently after going through gears the other night. None of my gears have ever really grinded and then all of sudden my second is shot and feels like putting it in neutral.
Granted my car has around 500 at the wheels so that may have had something to do with it (lol). Car has 70k miles

I read somewhere where someone said if you have to replace the second gear set, good chance you have to also replace main shaft.

***** Did you have to replace your mainshaft? *****

I just ordered my second gear set and as soon as it comes in, my local Honda said they can install it.

Default Updated Dropbox link?

I didn't do anything differently from the DIY guide / service manual, although I was able to skip buying any of the press tools as I have a small table-top lathe, so I just made everything out of pipes and tubes I had lying around.

In any event, I found this to be very helpful:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...t%20Number.pdf

I added the factory part numbers to the exploded diagrams in the service manual--makes it pretty easy to put the shafts together when you can just grab the right bag from a pile of parts from Majestic Honda. Just AP2 unfortunately, but if there's interest, I guess I could make one for AP1.

Also of note--I'm not sure why my 1st gear got munched, but I did notice that the 2nd gear was virtually free of wear, as were all the other carbon synchros. First is just a basic brass synchro. First and second synchro also appeared to be completely interchangeable. Long story short, I put my old carbon 2nd gear synchro on first gear, and replaced the second gear synchro with my new one. My hope is that it will last longer and provide better synchronization than the cheapie brass version, my fear is that it won't work, as I haven't put the trans back in the car yet!

I'll update this when I get everything back on the road...

hey thepoi
do you have an updated link for your Dropbox? I’m searching for a list of wearable parts that I should replace when I rebuild my transmission.
item names and or part numbers would be awesome!

Thanks

You can get all of the part numbers on most honda parts websites and the diagram where they go to. I made some for my own just to keep in a binder as I'm rebuilding my trans also, but I dont know if I saved them. All I did was take the picture from the site and the number of parts and put the numbers in a list to make it easier to find without having to search a site while rebuilding it.

Thanks for letting me know
are there any specific components or gaskets/seals, etc that are a must to replace.

example: I am replacing second gear so I am 100% going to replace my clutch (full kit an bearing) because I know it is old and I am in there.

Do you know if any must replace items?
