DIY threads like these are the ones that help give confidence to the shade tree mechanic (myself). The effort and time taking pictures and writing each detail including tips are very appreciated, thanks!

I hope to be able to tackle this myself when the need arises. I will definitely refer to every singlel picture and word mentioned here.

These kinds of threads reminds me of the s2ki of yore. Thanks again.

While everything was apart, did you consider having the wear parts (if not all parts) cryo-treated and/or melonited?

Carbon syncs cannot be put into the ap1 trans. the gears (not just the ratios) are completely different.

I can post some pics if you like

^^That would be great.
I was under the impression that the old synchros in AP1's are being phased out and are now being replaced (in replacement sets purchased for AP1's) with updated carbon synchros....

Thanks Billman250. I can see the gears are different with the AP1 gear having a beveled collar and the AP2 gear without the beveled collar.
Here is a picture of my AP2 second gear, (the old one I replaced with a new one that came with the gearset.

I should mention that I just checked and the counter shafts for the two different types (AP1 and AP2) are different part numbers...so it may be that you can not interchange synchros between the two without also changing countershafts as well (and for that matter mainshafts too which are different part numbers too).
I don't know whether or not they are updating the AP1 synchro kits with carbon synchros made for AP1 gears as I had heard they are. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be great.

Thanks for this great thread! I am about to tackle a rebuild of my transmission and was adding up the prices of the tools and wondered if these two items:
07746-0030300 ATCH, I.D. (30MM) ~$18

07746-0030400 ATCH, I.D. (35MM) ~$25

were sockets in their respective sizes or something different. Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the delayed response. Those are attachments that work with 07746-0030100 DRIVER HANDLE ~$35. They are of different diameters to fit on different diameter gears or bearings etc. Used when installing new gears or bearings.

Trying to rebuild and can't get the input shaft and all the gears to come out. removed what we think is everything, have circ clip released and can't get them out even with force. Multiple honda techs and tranny shop can't get it out. thoughts?
