Default DIY:Polishing Valve Cover?

I am interested in tackling this job next time i am stuck inside because of snow. First I wanted to hear from anyone who has done this themself. I was planning on using a dremmel, is that good enough? What mistakes can be made when doing this? I know it is very time consuming, but thats ok. Is it tough to get it to look perfect and even? Comments and suggestions welcome. Thanks, Jeff

Get a professional to do it. They use large diameter cloth wheels to polish the easy to get to bits and smaller tools for the nooks and crannies. It shouldnt be too expensive.

Using a small tool on the large flat areas will not give you as flat or consistent surface. Highly polished surfaces will show off any slight wobbles on the surface.

Another thing to consider are the latest chrome paints. I saw some pictures of a Merc show car with what I think was the latest PPG paint. It looks like polished chrome and is rumoured to cost $5000 a litre.

Speedracer.

First work on the DIY stripped valve cover. If you are still up for after that, it is not that hard. A larger cloth wheel works better then a dremel. Also it sould be run from a bench grinder type motor. The shop that does the work for us, has a number of these and they move from station to station. I think only a small number have ever been done (and posted here) by hand. It is the nooks and crannies that will drive you nuts.
