I got my S last week, I changed this oil this past weekend just like I did on my Integra but... I didn't know about the oil filter gasket. Do I need to be concerned about this if I don't remember if it stuck to the engine or came off with the filter? I'm about to go out to the garage and check for any leaks and check the oil level.

Edit: No leaks & oil level is fine.

thanks for the writeup

i'm having the dealer change my oil the first time since owning the car, because it needs its 45k maintenance anyway. but i'd like to do this myself when i can.

it looks to me like this will be much easier than changing it in my last car, a miata. that had a panel and some suspension pieces below the filter, so you had to either twist and snake your arm up in there, or take the passenger side wheel off. either way, it's hard to guess where the filter oil will spill out. after a while i figured to put the pan above where the old oil stains in my t-shirt were.

why not use a cheap oil to do the flush instead of the diesel or kerosene? most of these could be had for $1/qt at walmart, etc...

Because Diesel or Kerosene would do a heck of alot better job of "flushing" than any thick oil could.

I actually used this method(diesel) on an old 4-stroke Honda 100cc dirtbike and it worked very well... but im a bit hesitant to do this on an F20C. I am curious though if this would be ok or if there is something we could use to flush our engines.

good write up.

I have two sets of car ramps...one is lower than the other so I use those to "lean" the s2k while jacked up on them so the oil drains out better.

I usually jack it up, change the filter, check for gasket, take off the plug, unscrew the oil cap and let her rip while I go drink a beer. Then come back in 20 minutes or so...torque plug, fill with new synth, screw back on cap, lower car, start her up and idle a few minutes, check for leaks, drain old oil into new oils previous container, put old filter in the new filters previous box, and set to the side, done.

Quick question. I use Mobil 1 Syn and usually change my oil every 3-5k mi. Does that sound right for syn or too often? I always figured better safe than sorry.

Did you check to see if the washer is stuck on the oil pan? This is a common occurrence - you remove the bolt and the washer is left stuck. Sometimes, the dripping oil can later cause it to fall.
