I wouldn't worry, I have the new one, I've ran over some stuff that fell off a truck, it's still there. The subframe is in the way, so whatever you hit has to bust up the subframe before it damages the valve in any way. If you hit something that damages the subframe you have bigger problems than a lopped off fumoto valve.
