Below you can see the filter - this is the blue Honda OEM one. I "attach" some aluminum foil around the bottom of the filter to help guide any oil drips off of the engine block. Just sort of fold this into place.
Anyone know what sensor that is?? I unplugged it and forgot to plug it back in when I started the car to check for leaks. My CEL light is on now...

UPDATE: I believe its the VTEC Oil Pressure Sensor

Thanks for this post. I always come back to this to get the torque setting. Just changed the oil only and it the longest part is waiting for the oil to drain. I have ramps to get the low profile jack under my swift spec-r lowered car. Can OP add the instructions to reset the light so its all in one complete?

I have been using mobil 1 10w30 on my MY01 for a while. I plan on switching to amsoil when I bring the car out of storage.

How should I go about dealing with the fluid change? After emptying the old mobil 1 oil, should I use a quart or so of amsoil to flush out the rest of the old mobil 1 oil that may still be inside the engine? Or would it be okay to just empty the old mobil 1 oil and fill with the new amsoil?

I'm a new owner so first thing on the list is to do an oil change, pictures are good but video can be better. Might help out some people...

Am I OK to leave this here?

Do i specifically need the honda brand oil filter wrench, or will one from pep boys do?
Any filter wrench works. I use oem wrench on my civic and pep boys one for my S.
Be careful what you use for a filter wrench. We had a new tech using his own filter wrench and it damaged filters on several customer's cars. We had to get all the cars he serviced back in for new filters. All the techs are using a Honda filter wrench now!

The normal Honda filter is a hand tighten affair, our S2k filters are not the normal Honda filter, it even says it on the filter, turn 7/8ths of a turn past gasket contact, so if it reads 5 turn until you see the 4, or approximately 20 ft lbs

Here's my second video as part of my service record which may help first timers have a bit more of an educated idea of what to do compared to the first one I posted above:

Read this and other threads, so please forgive me if my questions seem dumb. I've only had this car for a couple months. Mine is a 2001. I fully understand how to change oil. I use a fumoto on almost all my cars, but wont be here because its a bit low (although I realize it sticks sideways).

1. Does a 2001 have the maintenance required light and is that reset if the batt is d/c (for another maintenance). It reads that 2002 and up is where that feature gets installed.
2. What is the reference for the oil filter tq. I understand 15-18lbft and I do have a wrench, but the 7/8 turn confuses me. Is this where the black gasket touches the engine or is this from where the black gasket is crushed and the outer metal surface touches the block (I think thats actually an oil cooler).

It sounds like you tighten this filter in a way that is against the policy of every other oil change I've even seen that makes hand tight important. They want you to nearly crush the filter to the car. I guess that ensures the harmonics dont wiggle it off the block.

Am I going to have to buy organic, responsibly harvested non gmo certified dye free gluten free oil with electrolytes from Whole Foods next?

Thanks
Jeremy

Does nobody come to this forum anymore? Is this a dead car? I sure hope not. The new miata is still a miata and after sitting in a BRZ I really thought thats an expired pork chop with slathered with bbq sauce.

BTW, I realized it was dumb and saw the maint req'd light at engine startup. Will this get reset if I had to d/c the ecu?
