For the record, I didn't remove the OEM radiator cooling plate. I figure it serves some purpose, and since I only need air coming in to the passenger side, why remove the whole piece.
So, I kept the piece in and cut a 4x6" hole in the stock piece on the passenger side where a snorkel would be. This gives me a direct path for air right into the cooling plate duct and keeps air pressure on the radiator, with the added benefit that the OEM cover has an angle on it that helps channel air backwards nd up instead of creating a more turbulant area (I'm guessing).
The results are similar to what people state here regarding throttle response, so it may be an easier solution to removing the whole thing. If you decide to do this instead of removing the whole piece, just be mindful of the cooling pipes in front of the radiator when you drill. I used a dremel with the drill bit.

You don't have to take the OEM plate out. It's up to you to take it out or not. I personally took it out to try to take advantage of the air scope for the oem air
