just did the gravity bleed last night with my 01 with 37k on the odo. i used ate super blue and it took awhile to see the clear blue coming out on the rears (no big deal). pedal feel is amazing only problem now is that my brakes seem to grab harder than im used to and my ABS will start kicking on real quickly now on hard braking (guess i need to upgrade to some better tires).

I personally like the pump method better (takes less time and that is what wifey and/or girlfriends are for).

oh ye, do not over tighten the bleeders when you are finished, they take very little torque to close/tighten.

Ive never tried a gravity bleed, but it sounds like a great idea since there is no way to suck air back into the system!!!

Billman, you are one again an awesome source of info. My only regret is that you are not close enough to be my mechanic

I do have one question: what is the correct torque spec for a bleeder valve??? I always feel like I need to crank on them to keep air from getting in, but I know a brass fitting in a cast caliper is a recipe for strippage!!!

I am in the middle of trying this process for '07.

It is unclear to me which front should I start first.
I assume the sequence is:
- Front Passenger --> Rear Passenger --> Rear Drive ---> Front Drive (the master cylinder side is last).

I just opened the Front Passenger valve and there was a lot of air bubble. It was slow and I waited for 45 minutes, the reservoir went to "MIN" , topped it with new fluid and waited again...now it stopped flowing...what is the matter with gravity?

Why did you assume a different order than was stated earlier?

The Service Manual has the order as: Drivers Front, Passengers Front, Passengers Rear, Drivers Rear. Another way of looking at is was......corner CLOSEST to the master cylinder Drivers Front), then clockwise.

I am a little curious (Bill) as to why you found a different oder to work better for you? I'm not being argumentative, as you and I have done our fair share of work on our respective coasts for this crowd. I just wanna know your thought process.

When emptying the master, some will remain in the front half. You need to start with the right front, to lower this level to accept the new fluid.

I just did a 2007 tonight, and can confirm that the gravity proceedure I use works the same on this model (AP2 V2)

No pumping, never touching the brake pedal.

I'll have the owner chime in here and tell you how he likes the brake pedal

I've been always using gravity bleed on my 05 and 06 without any problem!

It will take about 2~3 hours total, including jacking up the car, taking off the wheels etc, all done by one person

the higher the BMC and the longer hose they are, the fluid will drop faster

from looking at the cylinder from the driver side view prospective, the left half is the one that you cant really stick anything in there to suck it out and was wondering if thats the side that holds fluid for the rear or front????

Does Right Front (RF) mean the passenger side front or driver side front?

When I did mine the drip was too slow and stopped after 45 minutes.
I used the 2nd person pumping technique instead.
