Billman, I'm leaving this one to your experience and first hand expertise. I find it quite alarming though, that these things are showing up as a weakness. I'm hoping that those who think it "must" have been from some kind of over-rev, are correct. I've never over-revved, but I do drive the car pretty hard from time to time. I guess I better check them out this winter.

Well, you have now. Like I said, the retainer is rubbing on the roller rocker, and has worn a groove in it. The valve will stay in the same position in relation to the head, provided the valve hasn't sustained any damage on the cylinder end.

If you saw it you'd be amazed....it's so bad you can see the spring is taller than the rest...
Is that valve making any noise or is the idle ruff? You gota get a picture of this. If the spring is higher, I wonder if the valve guide has come loose and moved up also.

Idle is smooth...no noise....As long as Honda doesn't need the car asap for warr. service, I'm going in with a borescope to ck the valve head and piston, and doing a compression and leakdown test. David1, I'll get some nice pics for ya Anybody know where we can check retainer part numbers??

Retainer part number has changed for 04....Either they are dimensionally different, or an update has been addressed at the time of the 2.2L engine revision....stay tuned

Ran to the dealer to R&R the valve cover and snapped this pic....I couldn't get a shot of the valve retainer, but here's the score on the cam lobe...
