You mean an 04 retainer?

I'll ring them today and order one, and size it up to see if it will fly.
Great! remind me to give you $5 next time I see you

This is a great topic. Lots of very useful information. A lot of it goes over my head but I will read it again and again until I understand everything.

For now I would be interested to know if the ECU stores or logs any data as far as over-revving goes. Like a modern day telltale, ideally logging the mileage and RPM reached. This could be useful for purchasing a used S2000.

Its been discussed before, and the S2k's ECU does not.

Just a little bonus from my history back at G2IC...

Regarding Ti retianers, we found a process called Titanium Nitriding that will increase the surface hardness of the retainers. While this won't prevent the retainers from snapping in case of an extreme over-rev, it does increase the service life significantly. We had a number of members with various brands of Ti retainers that were starting to gall from rotation againt the top corner of the valvespring. To the best of my memory this all but stopped that problem. Before TiN coating the service life was in the 20-30k miles range, not sure what they ended up with afterward.

The 00-03 doesn't. It's not been confirmed if the 04 and newer will not.

I'm at 44k. Bought it used at 39.6k. I'd like to get my retainers checked, valves adjusted, and maybe do leak-down & compression tests. Does anyone know a good s2000 mechanic in my area: Winston Salem, NC? I'm willing to drive, but not too far.

I think I might be able check the retainers, and adjust the valves myself, but I'm not sure I could change the retainers if they need it. Plus I'd like to watch someone else first, so I don't make any mistakes.

I had one incident where I hit 1st instead of 3rd, but only saw 40mph on the speedo so I didnt think of it. The rest of the times I was probably downshifting too early for the corners, as I caught myself shifting early like GT4(not good).
No physical difference in engine performance(being turbo, I probably wouldnt have noticed until it dropped).
Got some good carnage pictures, the worse Ive seen as of yet, at least without dropping a valve
Scoring:

see the height difference(valve toward the right)

hrmm...Im missing something(left retainer).

I wouldnt have even noticed unless member Spoolin wouldnt have MADE me pull my valve cover. Glad he did Have Supertech Ti retiners, springs ready to go in. Ill probably just polish out the grooves unless people STRONGLY say otherwise. Ill let my machinist make the ultimate decision. Hopefully Ill have er running again in time to drive it before snow flies up here!
