So I was just falling asleep and something ran through my head, I may have found an advantage to a higher number of cylinders. Ok heres what i was thinking. If you had 12 cylinders vs. 8 the combustion chambers on the 12 cylinder engine would obviously be smaller, right? Ok so would an engine with smaller combustion chambers be more efficient than an engine with larger chambers? What i was thinking is that an engine with smaller combustion chambers would burn the fuel and air more completely. (Hence higher compression ratios) The only variable i can think of is the density of the air/fuel mixture that has to be ignited in each cylinder. I don't know anything about the advanced chemistry of an air/fuel mixture (other than the oxygen and gasoline.) But would the engine with the smaller combustion chambers have a harder time igniting the more dense mixture?

So, has anyone ever "de-stroked" an F20? I would gladly give up a few ft/lbs of torque for an another 1,000 rpm mmmm could you imagine the sound of our cars @ 10k+

Going past at 20mph.
With a shorter stroke you would be lowering piston speeds which would allow you to rev higher. Am I wrong? (obviously would need to upgrade the valve train as well) Just wondering if this is a feasible possibility.
