Thumbs up Dirty air filter... bad to drive? *problem fixed*

I have a comptech intake and my foam filter is pretty dirty. I want to get the AFE replacement, but it's kinda hard to find a place that has them except for amazon. Anyway, is there a big performance hit when driving with a dirty filter?

Either get a new filter or clean that one.

Im not sure if this is bs information or not but someone once told me that a dirty filter will filter better than a clean one. However, it will affect your performance (power) and gas mileage. Is this true?

A dirty filter is just one doing its job and usually looks worse than it is. Air flow is not impeded enough to affect performance until it is very bad, usually only happening if you drive in extremely dusty conditions. A filter normally does not need cleaning or replacement for in a year or more, many are relatively clean in 25K miles.
