Default Dirty Air Filter

How do you know when your air filter is really dirty and hurting performance?
I used this to tell me when my air filter was bad on my over the road truck, so I put one on my "S" and it has a spot for it on the intake tube right from the factory.

It takes the guess work out of "Is my air cleaner dirty?". I don't know if all the intakes look like my '06 but if they do it has a good boss to mount the filter minder to. If you have a after market intake all you have to do is drill one hole. I got mine at Summit for $18 to the house, and if your boosted this will tell you if you have a big enough air filter to start with. To small of a air filter will definitely hurt performance.

Interesting. I like it. But I'm not sure it's neccessary with the ease of air filter inspection on a stock S2000 setup. But if I get the itch to buy something, who knows?

I know on my old truck(KW T-2000) you could not tell by looking at the filter if it was dirty and I would get 400k to 500k miles on that air cleaner. If I had boost on the "S" this would be one of the first things I'd do, boost can overtax a air filter very quickly and you would not know it just by looking at it.
If you look at the gauge you will see that my stock intake has at least 8" of vacuum(it locks at the highest vacuum) the air cleaner has about 8k miles on it right now. I will change it out when the gauge reads between 15" and 20" of vacuum at WOT in the upper rpm's. I might modify the stock air box to accept a longer air filter to help keep the vacuum lower for a longer period of time.
