Five (5) quarts is fine. Actual capacity is 5.1 quarts. The engine ain't gonna miss those 3 ounces of oil and will still be within the acceptable range on the dip stick. Won't hurt to completely top off but don't over-fill.

AP1 Oil capacities:
5.9 US Quarts after engine rebuild
5.1 US Quarts for oil change including filter change
4.8 US Quarts for oil change only

As others have noted you appear to be low. The hash marks top to bottom is 1 US Quart. Let the car sit at least 10 minutes after running and assure you fully seat the dipstick before removing for a reading. One side side of the dipstick will read lower than the other. Use the lower reading.

Utah

P.S. Mobil 1 is fine. Used exclusively for 14 years on my AP1. Most comments to the contrary are posted by Amsoil sales reps. Valvoline full synthetic works Good too.

A good tip is run the end of the dipstick through a flame until it turns blue. Then every time you check your oil it is crystal clear what your level is.

Never thought of this but it sounds genius!

Update!
After pouring in one full quart of oil, the dipstick read just above the L-low, right on the bottom of the X hashes.
I decided to pour another half quart of oil in, and now my dipstick reads right in the middle of the X hashes. This reading was while the car was completely cold.
Perfect.

Also turns out the vtec solenoid o-ring was leaking. Was not the tct.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, I know it was kind of a noob question, but the readings on the dipstick were just odd so I figured I would ask.

Thanks all

^yup the very bottom of the dipstick is about 2 quarts from the upper full mark, or one quart from the low mark. Keep an eye on it so you don't get to this point again, that is where engines can start to fail in certain conditions.

I would check your PCV, ensure that it's operating properly. Otherwise, I check my oil every time I fill up my tank.

Glass bead the end of the dipstick. Makes it very easy to read brand new oil.

Add another half quart or so to bring it to the top hash mark.

Utah

P.S. There are NO stupid questions here.

Billman, how do to apply a glass bead to the end of the dipstick?

Thanks!
