Difficulty engaging 1st gear
This is a problem I have only recently been noticing (perhaps as a results of my last 40,000kms service??). I am currently at about 45,000kms now.
It usually only happens when cold and stationary.I t is not a problem that is occuring every time.
I have the clutch flat to the floor and cannot move the stick into 1st gear. If I move into 2nd I can then go back into 1st without a problem.
Do you think switching tranny fluid would help, or do you think it is a bigger problem?

Perhaps your clutch fluid and tranny fluid could use a change. By putting the gearbox into 2nd (when in neutral sitting still), you are stopping all the turning bits in the gearbox, thus making it easier to engage first. Do this experiment next time: From neutral, idling, push the clutch in but wait a count of 3 or 4 (seconds) before moving the stick. If it goes in, you've confirmed what I've just said. If it's still hard to goes into 1st, I would suggest that you clutch is not fully disengaging when cold. A fluid change may be all it takes.
