IMO its just the way the S2000 gearbox is after it has about 25-30k mi wear - notchy and not easy to get into reverse when cold. I've regreased everything, done the burr trick, chnged fluids, etc. I think its how the synchros wear and the fact that reverse is not always aligned just right.

Ill give the first then reverse a try, im also going to rebleed the clutch because im not sure that I properly bled it when changing the master and slave cylinders. It shifts ok most of the time, but its mainly reverse on a cold start.

Changed all fluids, tried many of the above tricks and its still hard to get reverse while cold... I think Saki is correct here. Could just be the wear on the AP2 synchros after some mileage I guess?

Me too with the hard to get R gear. 2009 w/12k miles. I clutch into 3rd then push down the shifter and go for R. Works well for me. I had to do this on my 95 civic w/230k too. My 04 Odyssey thunks into R - with 102k on the clock I think I'm already ahead of most other 2nd gen ODY owners.

No way. I have 100k miles on my ap2 trans.

95% of troublesome shifting or notchiness in the trans can be blamed on dirty clutch fluid, poor rod adjustment, or a rusted input spline. It is rare if it is the trans itself.

Sad to say, if the trans has never been out, and no one cleaned the splines with a wire brush and greased them, then you have rust.

Honda did not grease it from the factory.

This can be reached from the slave cylinder hole cant it? I noticed it was that same coloration when I changed the slave cylinder

Ok found a video and seems that part is reachable but could be a huge PITA to get to from that hole

wait a couple of seconds after pushing down the clutch pedal so that the intermediate shaft can come to a halt before shifting into reverse, and go into a forward gear before shifting into it

I can, but I think it is the rusty spline issue now that you mention it.
