Differential Swap Question
When you do the switch, in the service manual, it advises that you have to mark the axles and drive shaft to the diff in a certain position, or there will be a lot of vibration (and the drive shaft has to be in the right spot on the transmission side).
When switching differentials with another car, what would be the proper way to do this.
Thanks for any input

When you're putting the same diff back in, without opening it up, etc.. then its common practice to put the markers on.
Otherwise.. don't bother IMO.
Note: there is a propshaft companion flange difference between MY00-03 and MY04-now.
The official way to swap it is not just remove and put the other one on.
You have a service manual.. so I guess you allready know.

anyone else have any other comments on this? I offered to help rikhemi on his swap because im currently doing the same thing, except im having a skilled tech remove my damaged 4.77's for some 4.56's.
I personally marked everything as in the manual, and the guy working on my diff brought it up that it is important to do so. He has done multiple richmond gear installs for s2000's, and mentioned that the vibration may occur. i tend to trust him considering he has 2 nsx's in his shop, and one has a turbo kit of a caliber i've never seen. the vacuum line from the wastegate is braided steel for god's sakes.
has anyone had the vibrations occur for them? im sure honda included that step for a reason.

I have pulled 30+ driveshafts and 20+ axles.
I have never once matchmarked any of them and never will
It is totally not necessary.

Paint marking the shafts isn't needed. I've run into the same issue as Billman. No extra vibration felt from not doing it.
The factory never bothered to phase or mark them when they put it together.
