I also discovered a little bit of play in my diff when I was under the car recently. I spun the driveshaft by hand back and forth with the e-brake on and it rotated about 1 inch in both directions. Is this okay?

I started hearing the common click/clunk noise on my passenger side rear when I start driving from a stop so I checked it out assuming it had something to do with my wheel bearing, axle, or diff. I spun my driver side rear wheel by hand and it spins freely for a little bit after I let go. I did the same on my passenger side rear wheel and there was a lot of resistance. It also immediately stops turning as soon as I let go.

I can also turn my driver side rear axle by hand but not my passenger side rear axle.

I had my diff fluid changed by a Honda tech which I did not have eyes on a month ago. I provided mobil 1 75 90. When i was under the car the other day i opened the fill bolt on the diff to add some additive and some of the fluid came out. It was red/pink in color... My question is to Leon since you use the same. What color is mobil 1 gear oil?

I'm still trying to resolve this click sound problem. I'll appreciate any help.

If the fluid in your diff is reddish/pink in color, the tech put the wrong fluid in your differential. Honda MTF is red/pink. I'm not sure what color VTM is, but that might be in there also. M1 should be clear/amber in color, if I'm not mistaken. Take it back to Honda and be prepared to start cussing loudly!

Ya, Mobil 1 is an amber color and even after extensive use it just gets darker, doesnt have any red in it.

I know this is a late reply but Thanks. I'm preparing to go to Honda but i have to build my case because i know they are smooth talkers and will put the blame on me somehow. I still have that sound and jacked the car up from the diff and idled it in first. The good wheel (driver side) spun steadily while the right did not move until gas was applied. both spun but i could stop the right one with my hand or foot.

I'm seriously wondering if wrong fluid (honda MTF) in the diff could cause all these problems. I'm not much of a loud public confrontational cusser but I'm afraid this is what I'll have to do to get my point across. Whats stupid is that I supplied the gear oil right to the guy who was doing the work. I have to play this smart so I won't get cheated. Any tips?

i think 1 inch play is fine if you're talking about how far the wheel rotates. my car does the same when the ebrake is not on and transmission placed in 1st gear.

hm, when you put it in first while your car was on or off? Sorry I'm a little confused. You stopped one of your wheels when the diff engaged?

now that i re-read what you wrote, you might have a sticky caliper or ebrake problem on that one side.
