Default differential fluid question- updated

so i went to the dealership to get the 30k inspection done and ive yet to do my diff fluid. so i just told them to do it for me and handed them a quart of the LE607, they call me back saying that the diff requires 1.6 quarts and said that they are going to use the honda diff fluid. am i wrong here? i was sure that it required a little under one quart.

--- so it seems that they did use something that is correct, ALTHOUGH they claimed to have needed 1.6 quarts, which still bothers the crap out of me. they used SL2472 gear oil

shown here SL2472 gear oil

it is definately GL-5... still, whats with the ammount they told me AGH

Get your car back and RUN like a MOFO!
They have absolutely NO IDEA what they are talking about. Our diffs take approx. 0.8 qt. PLUS, Honda does NOT have an in house diff fluid that is compatable with the S2000. They have to get it from their motorcycle division.
On the other hand, if you want them to do it and they put in the VTM-4 fluid that most dealers will use, your diff will grenade within a few weeks and you can claim a brand new diff. Just document what they put in there. Get them to show you the bottle.

it's 1 bottle of the LE. It actually is a little less, but tip the car towards the passanger side and you can fill it up to almost 1 full bottle. I don't think there is a specific Honda Diff fluid for the s2k either. They could try the CRV or Pilot fluid, but some members have blown up their diffs from that. Maybe they'll use Mobil1 or something?

The dealer always knows what's best. I went in for tranny fluid and the counter guy told me I needed 5bottles. When I told him, I just need 2, his response was would you rather listen to someone who does this everyday or to some stupid Internet forum guy.

I hate it when someone chimes in while I'm typing, but since it's XVIPER, it's all good

go back and show them your owner's manual, and point out the page where it says how much diff fluid the car takes.

then close the manual, bring it back behind your head, and slap them across the face with it. then, demend that they change the diff fluid to the fluid YOU want to use. and that they do it no charge.
