Torque wrench is highly recommended. Last thing you want to do is strip the threads or have the bolt come off.

Did this lasts night, my diff fluid was changed at 10k by the dealer from the previous owner. I had the car up on 4 jackstands and level and when I took the fill plug out is poured out like a mofo. I'm assuming it wasnt level when they filled it last. Also the stuff that came out was black as mud, I was going to take a sample for blackstone but I left my collection containers at home(did it at a friends house).
Overall its a super simple job which is certainly easier when the car is up on four jackstands. I was doing my tranny fluid at the same time which is why I put the entire car up.
BTW great write up, some said its not needed but its nice to have some pics of what you're looking at before you start the job. Also the suggestion of the fluid pump from a boat shop was a life saver. I couldnt find one at a pep boys or autozone so I almost ordered one which would've made me wait to get the job done.

Off the top of my head, I'll say 0.8 qt. If you jack the rear up, put in the entire 1 qt, lower the car to level, and let the excess drain out the fill hole. The bottom of the fill hole is at the correct level of the fluid.
