Default Differential Break-in Period

I have a little over 300 miles on a new set of gears, Im just curious if it would be harmful to make a road trip down to austin, tx from dallas or not. Approx 200 miles each way.

Do it. If you load it up like a high speed pass or sustained high speed running (assuming you don't get ticketed), give it a rest of normal driving for several minutes before doing it again. Change out the fluid when you get to about 1000 miles.

Still havent Vtec'd yet.... would I be ok to vtc before the fluid change? I was planning on changing the fluid at 500, but I'll just do it next week when i get back.

I think the important thing is how many heat cycles your new diff has gone through so far in those 300 miles. If they've gone through about 3, 4 or 5 heat cycles, then I don't see a problem with VTECing the thing. Like I said, always pay attention to giving it a cool down period after "working it". This applies to anytime and not just during the break-in period. Changing the fluid at 500 miles shouldn't hurt but I think it's somewhat premature. But utilmately, it's your time and effort, so do what you're comfortable with.

They should have been done straight after the install.
(Did you get 4.57r's?)

With the miles you have on them now it is no problem driving the distance you are talking about.
Any distance IMO (You only need to keep the first oil change after install in mind > 600-1000 miles)
It is a nice oppurtunity to a bit and let it cool down driving "normal".
Create a nice contact wear pattern

Have FUN
