Difference between 00-01/02-03 ecu?

^maybe if youre doing bolt ons like headers, exhaust, intake...since some of those lean out the mixture, it might help..but seriously, no point getting a early ECU..

Few hundred $$ for a few hp.. I guess it's up to the person spending the money.

There is no matching required. You could take any ECU from 00-05 and stick it in any other S2K. Some people take 02-03 ECUs and use them in their 04-05 so they can rev to 9k. There is no compatibility with the ECUs from 06-09 though because they added VSA, DBW, etc.

I would look into this mod in my 00 if it increased gas mileage.
