UPDATE:
I finally had a chance to pull the trans apart this weekend. Unfortunately, my theory was wrong and nothing was bent. 3rd and 4th gear syncros were shot and the engagement teeth were all worn into a unidirectional cut (instead of being cut to point like an arrow, they were all worn so they were just cut on one side). 2nd gear wasn't as bad but was also wearing out.
Since I already needed to replace 3, 4, 2, and consequently, 1 I figured I might as well just do 5-6 also and have all my syncros be fresh. I ordered my parts yesterday and the total was... a lot. For all 6 syncros, needle bearings, two distance collars, assorted bolts and washers, a new clutch disc (even though mine looked brand new, I figured I might as well change it while it's out), throwout bearing, pilot bearing, brake rotors, and a few other miscellaneous parts, my total came to $1940 after tax. And that was AFTER a 25% discount.
I broke my friend's hydrolic press working on my rear end a few weeks ago, so I also need to get a new press this week. And once I get it all back together, I still need to get the car re-balanced and aligned... So I'm looking at a grand total of around $2500.
I didn't take any pictures of the gears yet, but I'll take some next weekend when I do the rebuild.
