perhaps loss of oil pressure, causing the vtec switch to cut out and sensation of power loss.

That could be since the oil level was not full on the dip stick. Could also be fuel starvation, if the tank was near half full or less.

Oil should be all the way up the hash marks. I check it before/after each session when I track the car.

Its not a bad idea to even slightly over fill the oil to one x above full on dip stick. When you pull G in a turn oil runs to one side of pan, if its low enough you could starve the oil pick up. half way up the dip stick is too low. A slosh plate will help this some if you dont have one. Same thing goes for fuel. Best to keep it above half a tank.

ah, okay! i will change that for this sunday! see, while my reasons for the halfway marks are pretty dumb, i did have reasons, lol

i read on here that keeping the oil level at the half way mark will help burn less & smoke less... ??? seemed to work..

and i read that with the gas tank at 50% the car sits at a perfect 50/50 weight distribution

Its not an issue of burning more oil, its losing it out of the top of the valve cover/breather/pcv and into your intake. I never had that issue, but if you do, thats what catch cans are for. Its not worth starving your engine of oil for. Someone gave you bad advice.

I agree that this may be the issue. I find that I need close to 3/4 tank to prevent fuel starve on an autocross course. 1/2 tank or less will fuel starve after a sweeper.

Yes. I would plumb it into a vacuum assisted catch can.

I would also plumb the breather into a catch can (this one can be atmospheric).
