My 177k F20 was burning a quart every 200 miles. Back of my GPW was always black from the exhaust. I eventually bought a rebuilt one from Inline Pro. I took the head off while I had it out and turned the crank and I could see oil on the wall of cylinder 4. When they were disassembling the whole thing to inspect it, they said my oil control ring was stuck which I guess was leading to so much oil getting into the combustion chamber.

My old AP1 burned quite a bit of oil. About a quart every 800 miles. Maybe less. Never tested compression but the motor performed well, sounded healthy. Car overall was really well looked after too before I got it so I don't think it was due to any lacking maintenance. Just a characteristic of these growingly-tired, early motors.

For comparison, my 07 now burns close to nothing. I think it burned .5 quarts in a little more than 5k miles. I'll take that.

I'd recommend a new PCV then just to eliminate that. Get someone to ride behind you on track and check for any blue smoke being expelled out of your exhaust.
I'd also recommend Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W40 100% synth oil. My AP1 hardly ever needs a top up even with hard spirited driving. This was true even with dealer (Castrol 5W30) oil.

My 04 F22 with 110k had gummed up oil control rings also. It was burning 1qt every 600 miles or so.

you could try amsoil motor flush.

mixing in half of the oil with mobil 1 15w50 helped me a great deal as well.

Now that you mention this: Ichishima-san from Spoon (of course you knew that) said in a Hot Version video "never use engine flush as fine particles may be dislodged that can cause wear". Since Mr. Spoon said this I took it to heart immediately. Didn't even use the Liqui Moly flush I bought for my S2K after that.

Still trying to find that video as I want to watch it again

i believe this, as this thought also floats in my mind as well from my own thinking.

i guess for me it got to the point where, the risk might be worth the presumed benefit. then again, you may regret it.

who knows.

Mine burned a ton of oil on the track until I punched holes in the valve cover baffle, capped the PCV line on both ends, plugged up the large intake hole for the front valve cover line, and dumped the front valve cover outlet to a vented to atmosphere catch can.

Do a leak down test. Not a spin it over compression test. That will confirm which way the oil and compression pressure is going. Valve stem seals could still be a problem if the leak down passes it's test. Don't make it more complicated than it may be.

Hope that helps.

There are a lot of postive reports about the use of engine flush. I would give it a try to free the oil control rings.
