I'll be spending part of this weekend taking apart the interior so I can remove the soft top completely. I've found and read a couple DIY soft top replacements on S2ki, but none specifically address removing the entire unit. I also have the service manual, but it's not nearly as in-depth as the DIYs I've found here. Is there anything else I should know before tearing into my car?

I've done it before and it's straight forward. Lower the top and unplug the motors once its loose before you remove it so it can be easily stored

Do you recommend 2 people for the whole job? Or just for lifting the soft top out of the car?

Curious as to why your doing this hardtop, weight, race ? I personally thought of having a dedicated convert able with the weight savings I hear its a bout 50 lbs with motors not too much. But I'd probably get a hard top cuz I'd miss a top at times. I probably will do this when my top wears out really bad or gets slashed or something.

Good question. I've asked myself this for a long time.

I've wanted an S2000 ever since I saw one in 1999, but when I saw photos with the OEM and Mugen hardtops, I knew I wanted a hardtop. Also, I've never desired a soft top. So if I'm never going to use it, why not remove it while it's still it great condition and sell it?

The other benefit is that it removes weight, which along with the single exhaust, bucket seat, and lightweight wheels, saves me a decent amount of weight overall.

Agreeded convertables arnt for everyone. For me I fell in love with it. Top up down in 10 seconds !!! Good reason though

From what I've read, the soft top+ motor is about 75lbs. I would like to take mine off but I wouldn't want to put it back on if I had to sell.

I had to separate the roll hoop plastics to get to the soft top. I have everything reassembled but the roll hoop plastics won't snap shut and there is a slight gap between the two halves of the plastic. How do I get them to stick together?
