Default Dealership Diff Fluid

I took my car in to the dealership for transmission fluid and diff fluid change, but I forgot to bring my Mobil 1 gear oil with me to my appointment.

They used "80-90 Gear Oil" part number "010 S013X".

I've read too many horror stories about the wrong fluid being put in to our differentials, so I'm curious if this is an appropriate fluid for our cars. Dunno if that part number means anything to anyone... the MT fluid had a HON prefix on the part number, this one has a 010 prefix.

uh oh cheerio. That should be fine if its a GL-5 rated oil

Honda only makes two gear oils that are compatible with our differentials. One is an 80w90 from the motorcycle division. The other is from the Marine division.

So, Unless "010 S013X" is that 80w90, or a non Honda-brand GL-5 gear oil, It is not the correct type. Honda makes diff fluid for the CRV, pilot etc, but this is NOT to be used in the S2K's diff..

We require a 75w90, 80w90, or SAE90 GL-5 (or GL-6 I believe) gear oil.

yes there was a TSB issued to Canada saying 80w90 is acceptable.. and even though Honda doesn't recommend 75w90, its perfectly acceptable especially in colder climates. I run 75w90 in the winter and LE607 the other 3 seasons
