The filters have the numbers 1-8 printed on them, each one an eighth of the way around. There is no need to go to complicated means to figure out how far 7/8 is....
The PCX filter they should be using has the 1-8 markings - other filters, who knows?????

An oil change is so easy on this car, I'm still amazed that people don't do their own. This thread reinforces my decision to do most of my car repairs myself. I've had the S for 3 years and it has never been to a shop. My wife's Toyota has only been to a shop once in 120,000 miles.
I don't do it for two reasons

1) I hate the hassle of getting rid of the old oil

2) I can go to a drive-thru place I trust, and I can watch them do the work... and it only takes 15 minutes. I supply them with a Honda PCX filter, but aside from that they do the rest.

I'll change my diff fluid at home, but only because I can do 4-5 changes before I fill up a milk jug and need to get rid of it.

the filter i get from the honda dealer here doesnt have any markings besides a honda logo and some other useless stuff printed on it. Nothing that marks 1/8. That would be convenient though. Do you think I am getting an actual Honda filter or am i getting shafted? Thats why I make my own marks. lol.

If it has a Honda logo on it, it is either OEM or counterfeit OEM (not likely), but not aftermarket. Does it say made by Honeywell on it? There is a good chance your dealer is giving you the wrong OEM filter. I think all other Honda's use same oil filter, 15400-PLM-A01. There may actually be one other exception besides the S2000, I remember someone saying something like that. Does anyone know if the Ridgeline uses the S2000 oil filter? At any rate the correct part# for the S2000 oil filter is 15400-PCX-004.

I think it is very likely you are using the wrong filter. Every Honda uses the same filter -- except the S2000. There are STILL some dealers who don't know this. Either that or they just don't want to bother with the extra inventory.

The part number is PCX-004. See the FAQ in this forum.
Jinx

Is that still true about the S2000 being the only non-PLM filter product? I was probably imagining otherwise. Come to think of it, I know a Honda motorcycle uses an oil filter of at least the same size as the S2000. The intstructions that come with the OEM oil filter have directions for use on a motorcycle. Just curious does anyone know what the NSX uses? I have no idea.

NSX uses a even larger filter than a PCX, and yes it's NSX specific. It used to be used on the Legend, untill Honda came out with a smaller Legend only filter, and left the big filter for NSX.

Thanks for the info on the NSX. Is the S2000 PCX filter still only for the S2000?
