Default Damnit, somethings loose in the engine bay of my SC'd S2k.

Once in a while, when I come to a stop, I can hear something rattling around in my engine compartment. Like a bolt or bracket loose somewhere. It goes as soon as I blip the thottle, and is never audible when driving. I cant pinpoint it in the engine bay due to the various other noises (blower whine, gear lash, etc). Anyone have any ideas? Can I take it to someone in the bayarea who is familiar with comptech? Dont really want to have to drive to Sac to have a screw tightened. Or is the engine on its way out?

Hey,
I live in Fremont also. I think I may have seen you before. You live near Fry's? Anyways, I take my car to Jack at Motorsport Techniques in Hayward. He's worked on a few of our S2Ks for the autox. Great alignment guy. He's pretty comfortable working on our cars and might be able to help you. Also, I was wondering where you got your SC installed. I am thinking about getting one soon. See you around. My daily driver is a silver S4 debadged.

If there is a screw moving around then you could get one of those magnetic tip rods that you can get screws out of tight spots in the engine bay. Other wish you might want to take it to a shop if something is loose and rattling.

You unbolted it but then probably forgot to take the stock airbox out of the engine bay... You know the stock airbox you were going to get back to me about.............. TWICE.

Anyway, can you duplicate the sound in the driveway with someone else driving and your hood up? If not get one of those mirrors on the end of a metal rod and go to town. This is one of those things that may make you drink.

Hi
I just had a vortech supercharger put on my 2000 s .It has caused a bolt on the heat shield that rattled in harmony with my blowoff valve.Another support bolt for the compresser backed itself out of it's support bracket.Maybe you should check out thoe areas. One noise I am having that is hard to pinpoint is a bearing that seems a bit noisy at all times but it's not squeeling(yet).I thought it was the supercharger but since it's gfairly new I'm thinking maybe it's just a pulley

100% Its a rattling. And it hasnt happened for the last week or so. Most peculiar.

The gear lash is a different sound. Not really a rattling, Id say.

That rattling is probably a bearing. I get it once in a while. Its like a brrrrrrrrr noise at low revs.
