This image clearly shows the mushroomed valve stem.
Cylinder 1 rear exhaust valve.

As i was beginning work on the car there were clear signs of someone else improperly working on the engine. Missing screws for the fuel rail cover, stripped allen bolts for the spark plug cover, gouges on the valve cover gasket mating surface from prying the Valve cover off, random bolts that were overly tight or loose.
The valve tick from this was insane.

at least you caught it before it could have caused catastrophic engine damage, good for you checking on this.

unfortunately i didnt catch it soon enough. The owner asked me to do an inspection before she bought it. The loud valve tick was there during that inspection. I knew it was a loose valve but i didnt know it was this bad. Now i feel terrible that i allowed her to buy the car in the first place.

The only saving grace is that she paid about $10k for the car.

Just when I thought I had seen it all.

The big question is are they OEM valves or aftermarket.

My bet is aftermarket, I have never seen so much as a blem on an oem valve.

i have no reason to belive the valves are non-oem.
only obvious mods on the car is a test pipe and uk exhaust mod.
Paint on the valve springs suggest oem springs. Why would there be aftermarket valves on oem springs? Valve damage in the past that was replaced with inferior "oem equivalent" product?

You are going to have trouble pulling those valves out of the head. May need to cut them out. Hope the exhaust valves aren't sodium filled.
