Default Cylinder Head Temperature Sensors

Hmmmm....so I tried searching but V4 search seems rather useless.

While looking on Dakota Digital web site for they're digital gauges, I noticed they offer a Cylinder head temperature gauge. Never seen it before but was curious. A little more investigation showed that these are used to monitor the temps inside a cylinder via an adapter for the spark plug. Namely you replace the spark plug washer with a sensor lead that measures the temperature. Fairly simple less invasive way to monitor cylinder temperature.

The obvious reason you'd do this is to watch for detonation. High cylinder temp would indicate possible detonation. I know pilots monitor the EGT of each cylinder in planes to watch for detonation. Seems like this would be less invasive than drilling into the header to mount an EGT sensor at the exaust valves of each cylinder. The question is are these types of sensors accurate enough and do they provide a better warning than A/F ratio? Anyone ever used them before. Most likely only those running very high/lean boost conditions would ever need something like this but it seemed an interesting idea to me.
