You have given me more knowledge on here than I could ever give you. I'm not trying to aruge with you, just my opinion. Maybe I am wrong, never said I was 100% correct. It is just my opinion.

I may sound a bit harsh. Sorry if that's the way it comes across. No insult intended. I've just been here a very long time. My responses can get a bit short and curt.
I mean to say that you should do what you think is best for you. When it comes to modding, we all do the same. I won't fault you for doing something that makes you feel good about your car. (You should see some of the goofy stuff I've done to mine. ). I just don't think this topic is important enough to continue debating the physics over. One way or the other, it's not "life or death" for the car.
Please, carry on. Have fun with your car. I will continue to help you if you are ever in need. It is entirely possible that I will benefit from your input one day as well.

Yeah i do have the air bypass valve from AEM, but it will not give you 100% protection. Lots of rain and wet days up in cleveland on a regular basis. I am young and have a hard enough time keping up with the payments/insurance on my S. I would rather have cheap security than have to pay to repair/replace a hydrolocked engine.

Thanks again guys,
Sam

Rather than a bypass valve that may or may not work, why are you guys playing with fire (or water in this case)? Are you plugging up the drain hole in the underhood rain channel that's right over the filter? Are you making and installing an "umbrella"? These are two very simple things that anyone with an AEM CAI should be doing.

if i am correct..
bypass valve will not protect u from rain...i dont kno how rain water on the filter will effect the engine....
but u will not suck up water(large amount, enough to hydro lock) unless ur airfilter is completly under water....and is is when the bypass valve will save u
i likve in washington(rains alot) and i have V2 w/no bypass valve.....but i dont plan on crossing any rivers soon so ......

This experience was posted here only a few days ago. Someone had splashed a lot of water and totally soaked the filter. The next time he VTECd the engine, it acted like a blow dryer (well, more like a "suck" dryer) and pulled all that water vapour and mist into the engine. He belched out white smoke for a little while and then was fine. I guess it scared the crap out of him.

interesting.......but little water shouldnt hurt the motor at all..i think. WW2 planes had "water injection" where it sparyed water in the engine to cool it down(?) and i think it is used in some modern race cars too(?)
Of course it doesn't hurt it. Not when the water is in vapour or mist form. The worst case scenario is what was just described. Seeing white smoke may be an indication that the vapour was about as dense as it could get. It was on the verge of being a concentrated liquid form.
